Starting tomorrow — You’d smile at your morning alarm thanking it to let you be on time. You’d feel pumped up practicing your daily fitness routine for it makes/will make you stronger. You’d enjoy every sip of your coffee/chai that fills you with energy. You’d feel great about your wardrobe that cherishes your personality. You’d wave back at your watchman who ensures your home always remains your private property. You’d ATLEAST share a smiling smiley on your X number of WhatsApp groups that blink with ‘Good morning’ wishes. You’d deliver one good opinion about someone to someone in the day. You’d reach out to your bosses or juniors making them feel strongly that you’ve got their back. You’d spend 10 minutes in the void thinking about how you’d make your life merrier than the present. You’d spend time with your loved ones, not staring at your phone but connecting soul to soul. You’d smile before you shut your eyes for the day because a beautiful tomorrow awaits!
Imagine if you’d ACTUALLY do all of the above starting tomorrow! What an ideal world, right? Well, by the end of writing the above para, I personally felt, “Jyada Ho Gaya…”! :p
Now, that I question myself on “Why Jyada ho Gaya?”, I feel I wasn’t brought up in a world that adhered to doing all of the above every day. I might have practised them over a week, a month, or maybe a couple of times in my entire life. But, the larger question here is — What really stops me or you from doing this every day, every moment? Well, ideally nothing.
And no matter who you are or your personality type, the act of being grateful is completely independent of your cranium’s department of emotions. You could be the next big human or you could be robbed of your fortune — In these very moments, being grateful will only and only make you feel good.
I think it should be recognized as a virtual medicine. At least, most of us would feel mandated to it. Your daily dose of calcium, vitamin, anti-allergy, and being grateful pills.
If you were attentive in the Class-8 science lecture, you’d be familiar with this term called ‘Cross-pollination’. One of the most beautiful creations of nature. ‘Flowers’ are born by this process. It’s how they grow borrowing pollens from fellow already bloomed flowers, it’s a classic example of how the civilization of flowers, so widely appreciated (I never heard anybody say, ‘What an ugly flower!’), believe in nurturing each other, sharing their good with another fellow leading a new life, in other words, being grateful.
You know, a simple gesture of widening your lips and stretching your cheeks leading to a smile while looking at someone (potentially, familiar faces) can make yours and that recipient's day. Don’t believe me? Just look away and do this once right now or wake up tomorrow and try this within your world. You’d end up feeling good about your own self, forget the recipient’s state of mind. When everything in your world seems difficult and enduring, this tiny cute little gesture is GOLD.
I think smiling should be recognized as your fitness routine. At least, most of us would feel mandated to it. Your daily set of cardio, yoga, cross-fit, and smiling modules.
We all keep shouting/reading/registering this phrase, “Life is short. Do things that make you happy!”. Sir/Madam, I think it’s a lot to ask for! Let’s rephrase this to, “Life is short. Be Grateful!”
And I don’t really know of anyone who likes being rude or ungracious. The ones who’d throw away their morning alarm because it rang, who’d be annoyed while exercising, who’d avoid spending any time with their loved ones, who’d always frown at people around them.
The point being, we’re all aware of being grateful as a phenomenon, but all we need now is to be self-aware of this very phenomenon. Trust me, it’ll only and only make your life merrier.
After all, I am grateful and I do not wish to hate my existence.
