You wanted to learn writing, you bought a pen and an expensive diary — done, period. You wanted to be a musician, your excitement helped you with an instrument you borrowed or fired up your pocket. You wanted to learn photography, but your social media credentials await your existence. You want to be a traveler, but you never go beyond 3 trips/year which includes Goa for sure. You wish to be a food blogger, you’re yet to learn how to plate or visually capture the same. You dreamt about a lean body, you enroll in a gym but yet to embrace them with your valuable presence. Let’s not even get into the niché side of this world — Fishing, Bird watching, Rock collector, Craft making, Garage sale maven…

You unknowingly bump into me — always. But, do you acknowledge me — never? Be it life situations, be it your aspirations, unless you’re driven or you’ve got nothing to lose with all your focus on the aligned act — you’d always find me around the corner. In the Indian context, you refer to me as, “Jaisa chal raha hai waisa chalne do!”, I am a status quo, I love my existence.

Let’s per se think how I was born?

“An unaltered condition,” 1833, from Latin status quo “the state in which,” hence “existing state of affairs.”… Was defined by our ancestors for administrative purposes. Just that humans were so awed by this phenomenon, they started imbibing it within their personal lives as well.

You know, I am always introduced mid-way in your life when you face an entity called — ‘distraction’. This distraction could be self-provoked or could be an emergency unforeseen situation. Something that pushes you to avoid your current affairs with legitimate logic in your head. In ancient history, this very distraction has led to dynasties losing power, it envisaged the shape of the world you live in, the cultural influence, the political scenarios, the economic scale, all of it. If you were attentive in Class 9 history lectures, you’d know what I am talking about.

Anyways, not just ‘Distraction’ that gets me to life, but also its brother ‘Boredom’ that adds up to my birth. You started thinking about pursuing something and then you realized it’s not something that you wish to wrack your brains on. Fancy phrases like, “I don’t feel like doing it”, “I think it’s not for me”, “Where is the time browsky?”, “Shit! my investment’s in vain” blah blah blah.

What you fail to realize is ‘Consistency’, the enemy to ‘distraction’ and ‘boredom’ can let you be a prosumer of the skillset that you wish to adhere to within you. While being ‘consistent’ is one of the most difficult things to imbibe in your world. It requires patience and your continuous level of positive thinking towards that deed. But most of you fail to fight your inner demons to maintain it. And why would you? Your world’s filled with minimal influencers but most of you’ll who get influenced. Oh! How did I miss my best friend -“Being influenced”?

When you’re influenced by something, It channelizes me to sit back, relax and chill on your existing activity. Not many in your world can mentally or physically acknowledge the fact that they are influenced. It’s a subconscious process that creates a shell of its own. A bubble which will further burst at its own course of time and again allow me to chillax on your current existing act. It’s a chain reaction you see!

So how can things change? I’d say they can never change. Even the most influential, successful people in your world suffer with me. So the immediate question would be how are they even influential? And the simplest answer is that they ensure there’s one thing that they hold onto forever which is virgin to ‘distraction’ or ‘boredom’. They ain’t special to dodge me. It’s just that they are clever to never allow me in that one thing they’re very passionate about.

Think about your human inspirations. From actors, politicians, sports personalities, et cetera — they’re called so because they’ve been consistently practicing the same. If they were distracted or bored, they’d be somebody else. Stick to one simple thing, no matter how less exciting it becomes with time (ideally if you like doing it, it won’t’) but stay put with it. You should know what it feels like to be indispensable with this one skill. And it won’t come to you so easily. You’ll have to give it all, most recognized souls in your world have, what’s stopping you?

After all, I am a status quo and I do not wish to love my existence.
